Description:
Matt Jenson's MIX UP MIX UP is a recently formed project, spearheaded by Jenson who is a pianist, singer, arranger, song-writer, producer, activist and Associate Professor of piano at Berklee College of Music where he also teaches a smash hit class on Bob Marley. MIX UP performed at the Hall last year to a wildly enthusiastic audience. Lighting up the connection between roots reggae and soul-jazz, Mix Up Mix Up presents original compositions and creative re-workings of pop, jazz and reggae anthems by Bob Marley, Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, Marvin Gaye, George Gershwin and Bill Withers to name a few. He is joined by bassist Wes Wirth and drummer Sean Skeete who masterfully deliver the deeply soothing and powerful reggae rhythm while Matt and his long time friend, Berklee colleague, and brilliant saxophonist/singer, Stan Strickland complete the Mix Up Mix Up sound with sophisticated yet soulful melodies and improvisation. This is indeed music for the mind, body and spirit that you can sit down and absorb or get up and dance to!
