Join us for a special edition of our local/regional filmmaker series, featuring Eben Portnoy who grew up right here on the outer Cape! Eben spent his teens and early twenties shellfishing, building houses, teaching art, and travelling the world as a singer-songwriter in experimental pop bands. As a filmmaker Portnoy fuses kinetic visceral imagery with underdog humor to forge a new science fiction of the senses.
Portnoy recently collaborated with James Franco, Keegan Allen, and a cast of preteen skaters on an omnibus feature, and was commissioned by the Google Creative Collective to create an experimental web series. His music videos have premiered on Vices Creator Project, OZY, and Stereogum. His films have found support from the Sloan Science Foundation, the Mary Pickford Foundation, and the Michael Minor and Robert Green Foundation.
Tonight Eben will present several of his short works and talk with the audience about his experiences as a young filmmaker, his influences, style, and upcoming projects.
