The Nantucket Historical Association will present an exhibition exploring the sinking of the Nantucket whale ship Essex by a whale in 1820.

Stove by a Whale: 20 Men, 3 Boats, 96 Days, will feature: the only surviving artifacts related to the disaster; a touchscreen that allows visitors to scroll through digitized, historic whaling logbooks dating back to the time of the Essex; a re-created life-sized whaleboat that visitors can board and sit in; and character cards portraying Essex crew members.

There will also be exclusive film props and costumes from the set of Ron Howards film based on Nathaniel Philbricks book In the Heart of the Sea, which is slated to open in theaters in December.
