WAR: Edgartown Library's Winter 2015 Film Series
Opens on Jan. 13 and runs for 6 Tuesday evenings at 7:00PM

A selection of the great war films of all time:

  • Jan 13: Gallipoli
Director Peter Weir's powerful drama of World War I unfolds with uncommon beauty and immediacy. (Australia, 1981)

  • Jan 20: Good Morning, Vietnam
Robin Williams' virtuoso performance in this film, directed by Barry Levinson and set in the early days of America's involvement in the Vietnam conflict, is not to be missed. (US, 1987)

  • Jan 27: Atonement
A tragic romance set during World War II, this film from director Joe Wright is both wrenching and beautiful. (UK, 2007)

  • Feb 3: M*A*S*H
Rude, lewd and crass, this black comedy of martini-swigging surgeons amidst the gore and inanities of the Korean war retains its satiric bite. Directed by Robert Altman. (US, 1970)

  • Feb 10: Glory
A stirring tribute to the men of the Civil War's 54th Regiment of Massachusetts, this film from director Edward Zwick boasts remarkable cinematography and fine performances. (US, 1989)

  • Feb 17: Master and Commander
Director Peter Weir gives us a ripping seafaring tale set during the Napoleonic Wars, full of salt, sweat and swagger.

Please Note: Movies are for adultsonly
