    Morris Dance Workshop In Woods Hole
Woods Hole Community Association and the Vineyard Swordfish dancers will present a workshop on Border Morris dancing for adults and teens on Saturday, January 31, from 1 to 3 PM at Community Hall, 68 Water Street in Woods Hole. The event is free, although donations are welcome The two-hour workshop includes light refreshments.
Morris is an ancient dance form once popular across Europe. Believed to have originated in Spain, it was called Morris in England, Moresca in Italy, and Mouresque in France. William Shakespeare mentioned Morris in several of his plays. Morris remained popular through the Victorian era and is enjoying a resurgence today.
The workshop will be led by Donovan Drummey. Ms. Drummey is a Falmouth native who joined Woods Holes Vineyard Swordfish and Clownfish Rapper sword dance teams while in high school, and learned Border Morris in college in Burlington, Vermont. She performed with the group On the Border and participated in choreographing new dances based on traditional Border Morris style.
Attendees should wear comfortable clothes and sturdy athletic shoes.
