Description:
Putting it on the Table, a local food series at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History takes a bite out of&JAM with Tyler and Anna Keyes of Little Bay Jams in Orleans.
Little Bay Jams is a business that represents the home canning portion of our lives. Food preservation is a colonial pastime that Little Bay is happy to feel connected to as society's commodity and consumption obscures the line between us and our diets. According to Tyler, It is satisfying to be mindful of where our fruits and vegetables come from and to have a relationship with those who care for them since strides in agriculture and global trade have made home canning far from a necessity in todays busy world. It is important to keep this practice alive so that we may not take for granted the bare and humble origins of our processed food. There is strategy involved in everything from what types of produce to pick and when, to preparing and processing into a jar that will remain shelf-stable throughout the winter. We will lead you through the tools and steps required to preserve your own harvest.
