Description:
The New England Society for Abandoned Animals, a no-kill shelter and partner of the Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Network, is actively promoting the Fix at 4 message: Get your pet fixed at four months. It can be old enough for them to get pregnant, and its definitely young enough to make a difference. To that end, NESAA, as part of the No More Homeless Pets Network and Best Friends Animal Society are launching a public awareness campaign focusing on WHEN to spay or neuter your pet. And NESAA is actively fundraising to ensure that there are funds available for those who cannot afford it. Just contact NESAA at (508) 771-7800 or check out www.nesaa.org to fill out a special form to request Spay/Neuter support. And note: all kittens and cats youll adopt from NESAA or at their satellite adoption site at PetSmart, Hyannis are spayed/neutered, no exceptions! Background: Did you know the number 4 can save thousands of lives in your community? Thats right, remembering the number 4 can help prevent thousands of dogs and cats from being killed. You see, more than 70,000 puppies and kittens are born every day in the United States and more than half are accidents. The sad truth is, a lot of these cute family pets end up in shelters. And when more than four million homeless pets are killed in shelters each year because homes arent found for them, its time we took the oops out of the equation.

When we set out to get to the root of the problem, it became clear that theres a lot of confusion and misinformation about the best time to spay or neuter your pets. It turns out dogs and cats can get pregnant earlier than most of us think. All you have to do is remember one number: four. As in four months. Because kittens can get pregnant as early as four months and puppies as early as six months, which means a litter of uh-ohs can happen sooner than you think. By spaying and neutering your pet at four months, you can stop the accidents before they happen. Get your pet fixed at four months. It can be old enough for them to get pregnant, and its definitely young enough to make a difference. Together, we can help prevent accidental litters from happening. And that helps keep animal shelters from crowding, and pets from being killed. Thank you for being part of the solution. Together, we can Save Them All.
