We are Rooted is the theme for Saturday's Highlands Fest 2014 in North Truro, with the Payomet Performing Arts Center celebrating being rooted as part of the Highlands Center in Cape Cod National Seashore with a day of family activities and evening of music.
Free events will take place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Payomet tent and area off Old Dewline Road. Along with free pizza and Ben & Jerry's ice cream, there will be children's entertainment that includes, at 11 a.m., Celtic and Americana musicians Rose Clancy and James Rice; at noon, rock for kids from The Elbows; and at 1 p.m., magic from The Amazing Richard.
In the evening with one $15 ticket for three acts the musical entertainment will continue with the all-women soul band Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens (marking a new album release), playing at 5 and 7 p.m.; local band The Sacred Mounds making a Payomet debut at 6 p.m., with jazz pianist Todd Marston; and, from 8 to 10 p.m., Boston soul musician Jesse Dee with his full band.
Highlands Fest is an annual celebration of the Highlands Center with its eight partner organizations: Barnstable County's AmeriCorps Cape Cod, Cape Cod National Seashore, Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Highlands Center Inc., Payomet Performing Arts Center, Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies, Sustainable CAPE, and Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill.
Admission: free for day events; $15 for evening concerts, with free admission for ages 16 and under
