After being wounded in World War I, Jean (Vincent Rottiers), son of the great Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir (Michel Bouquet), and a future cinema auteur himself, returns home to convalesce. A triangle soon arises when they both fall for the same young woman.
