    Lecture Title: The Portland Gale - Don Wilding speaks on the Portland Gale. This fierce storm struck the New England coast on Nov 26 & 27,1898. Over 400 people died and over 150 ships sank as a result of the storm. On Nov. 26, the steamship SS Portland departed India Wharf in Boston for Portland, ME. The ship sank killing all 192 passengers and crew on board. Since the start of the millennium, Don Wilding has been telling stories of Cape Cod Outer Beach history through lectures and the written word. An award-winning writer and editor for Massachusetts newspapers for thirty years, Don contributes the "Shore Lore" history column for the Cape Codder newspaper of Orleans and is the author of the book Henry Beston's Cape Cod: How The Outermost House Inspired a National Seashore. His Cape Cod history lectures are a popular draw to Cape Cod and across Massachusetts. Don is a co-founder of the Boston Society and is on the board of directors for the Eastham Historical Society. He lives with is wife Nita, in Northbridge, Massachusetts, and on Cape Cod. The popular Talk of The Town Speaker Series returns to the Sandwich Glass Museum in 2020. Talks held at 7pm.
