Fall is here for sure, and its a great time to come out and dance! Outermost Contra Dance is happening Friday, October 11 at Wellfleet Preservation Hall with live music and contra dances, mixers and perhaps a square dance or two. This month we feature local caller Pat Nash, who will teach each dance and keeps the evening lively. Live music is provided by two renowned local musicians: Rose Clancy and Max Cohen. Chathams own Rose Clancy is a much respected, high energy musician playing fiddle, mandolin and banjo at concerts and festivals throughout the Northeast while sharing the stage with some of the greatest traditional performers. Rose will be accompanied with her recording colleague, musician Max Cohen. An accomplished guitar player, Max has been playing and writing for the guitar for more than thirty years. His musicianship has drawn accolades from critics and fans alike. As an accompanist, Max is always looking for something to engage the listener - a clever twist, an unusual chord or a poignant harmony.
Contra dancing is the older cousin to the square dance. No fancy footwork needed if you can walk, you can dance! All the dances are taught and called. If youre new to contra dance, be sure to get in on the early dances for the basic moves. And dont miss out on our welcoming and delicious potluck at 6. Outermost Contra is one of many contradances on the Cape, and was organized in December of 2014. The contra dance is family friendly and welcomes dancers of all levels.
