The 1736 Josiah Dennis homestead will be reopened for a special one-day-only event on Saturday, September 21, from 1-4 p.m. as the Dennis Historical Society celebrates Autumn at the Manse.

Costumed docents and local historians will transport visitors back to the 1700s as guests will have the chance to explore period rooms throughout the houseincluding two parlors, the borning room, the keeping room and multiple upstairs bedroomsas well as marvel at classic interior architectural features like wood paneling, a narrow original staircase, wide-plank flooring, remarkable hearths, and early interior doors. This years showcase special exhibita modern mannequin beautifully dressed in the kind of mid-18th century garb Josiah Dennis himself may have worn, created by Manse docent Linda Petersonwill be featured in the East front parlor. The rear-ell Maritime Room, with its special one-day-only inkwell exhibit, will afford museum-goers the chance to learn more about Dennis rich seafaring history, including the legacy of 19th century shipbuilding at Sesuit Harbor by Asa Shiverick and his descendants. Refreshments will be served.

Admission, as always, is free, with donations gratefully accepted. The Manse is located at the intersection of Nobscussett Road and Whig Street in Dennis Village.
