UnBox - A Contemporary Dance Performance Exhibition of the Movimento Project

We wake up and go to sleep, live and move, raise our young and bury our deceased in boxes. Boxes are inherent in our rooms and buildings, beds and chairs and tables, modes of transport and civic boundaries. From little boxes, boards and bricks, we make more boxes, from buildings to cities and nations.

How does this logic of the box, omnipresent in contemporary life, affect our perceptions of reality and possibility? What might exist only because of the box, and also beyond the box, without the box, outside the box?

UnBox  Movimento V inaugurates the fifth season of the Movimento Project, a regional, contemporary choreographic initiative that combines local talent with international connections in an emerging program of artistic residences, public workshops and multiple performances throughout the year in many local venues. This years performance exhibition at the Wellfleet Preservation Hall offers an immersion experience in the nature and artifice, delimiting and supporting role that boxes offer our comparatively frail and flexible, fluid and free human anatomy, personality and creativity.
