Calendar Event Information for Cape Cod Cod

Cape Cod Cod
When: May 20, 2019
Where:Cultural Center of Cape Cod, 307 Old Main St., South yarmouth
Time:6:00 PM

Codfish were an important food item for coastal Native North American tribes. When codfish appear in Native American legends, their role is usually simply as something that other characters are eating or fishing for. Some Nuu-chah-nulth tribes tell the story that a lunar eclipse is the result of a codfish trying to swallow the moon. Some Native Alaskan fishermen make a special offering of the first cod they catch each season, similar to how it is done for salmon and halibut. Codfish is used as a clan crest in some Northeast Coast tribes and can sometimes be found carved on totem poles.

We will have brandade du morue au gratin, yeast fried cod with saffron aioli, braised cod in an octopus red wine sauce and finish with fresh cheeses. We will sip on Rose, Lager, Syrah and Grenache.

This class meets in the Culinary Arts Center in the Education Wing.

Our cooking classes are held in our commercial kitchen. You will be seated at a counter on counter top stools, so please wear comfortable clothing. Layers are best, the temperature fluctuates often.

Monday, May 20 from 6-8pm $65
