Description:
An Evening of American Roots: Blues, Bluegrass and Old-Time

Featuring Cumberland and Martin Grosswendt with Susanne Salem Schatz

Martin Grosswendt is internationally known as an interpreter of pre- war blues and other roots music, who began his career accompanying and/recording with the legendary folk musicians such as U Utah Phillips, Rosalie Sorrels, and Jim Ringer and Mary McCaslin.//Susanne Salem-Schatz is a veteran of the Boston roots music scene, and slips seamlessly into any genre, making it her own; soulful blues singer one minute, sassy honky-tonk gal the next. /

Together they embrace a deep love and respect for the roots of classic blues, old time, early country, and honky-tonk.//At the same time, they make the music their own, presenting it with style, grace and wit.//

Cumberland is the acoustic duo of Jim Rohrer and Lynda Shuster. Cumberland features the traditional songs and tunes of the Southern Appalachians accompanied by the guitar, banjo, tenor banjo and mandolin.

Jim and Lynda feature old-style duet singing and draw heavily upon the repertoire of the Carter Family, along with other early bluegrass and string band artists.

Lynda Shuster is a dynamic 5-string banjo player, vocalist and finger style guitarist. She is also a member of Bourbon Sunset.

Jim Rohrer has toured and recorded with Southern Rail. He is currently a host of WOMRs Bradford Street Bluegrass.

The musicians will be available after the show for a question and answer period along with a discussion of early 20th century American music styles.
