Tonight's presentation: Over The Limit (2017, Poland/Germany, 73 min.) Synopsis: Over the Limit shows how the successful Russian system for training athletes transgresses boundaries. Elite rhythmic gymnast Rita Mamun has reached a crucial moment in her career. Shes soon to retire, but has one final goal set out for her: winning Olympic gold. A nail-biting behind-the-scenes drama about the intense physical and mental labor put into a sport that thrives on its beautiful aesthetics.
The film creates an intense portrait of a young woman who is desperately trying to handle her own ambitions and fulfill the expectations from the official Russian training system. It gives an exclusive access to the hidden world of the elite gymnasts and an insight to the harsh and successful triangle between the young sportswoman and her two trainers. Over the Limit is an intimate drama of brutal relationships that lead to success.
over.the.limit.3"With her first feature-length documentary Over the Limit, Polish writer-director Marta Prus does for rhythmic gymnastics what Damien Chazelle did for drumming in Whiplash." -Neil Young, The Hollywood Reporter
"[A] darkly dazzling achievement. The tight, tense result surely ranks among the great modern sports docs." -Guy Lodge, Variety
