Description:
Julia and her crew are back for their annual *exclusive* summer show at the Hall..we can't wait!
We're delighted to share the news that Julias brand new song Survive (Livin) has been chosen as one of the spotlighted singles of the week by DMVLIFE.com. Congrats, Julia!
Since 2012 Julia and her writing partner/accompaniest David Ylvisaker have been performing yearly at Prez Hall to sold-out audiences. Julia's velvety, dynamic vocals, coupled with her smooth and sophisticated delivery of both known classics and original material have made her a house favorite. This August she'll bring a repertoire of her favorite R&B and jazz songs, as well as a few surprises and brand new material.
Nixon is an accomplished and award-winning R&B singer. In the mid-1980s, she led a musical group called Julia & Company. The band had two singles that charted on the UK Singles Chart. "Breakin' Down (Sugar Samba)" reached #15, while "I'm So Happy" reached #56. Her first solo album was released in 2007.
At the 2009 Wammies, Nixon won the Urban Contemporary Vocalist Award and her ensemble, Julia & Company, won the Urban Contemporary Duo/Group Award.
Most recently, Julia conquered Broadways Dreamgirls and won a Helen Hayes Award in the critically acclaimed Studio Theatre production of Tony Kushners Caroline, or Change.
Says The Washington Post: Nixons rich contraltosassy, spirited and sensuous never fails.
