A Very Long Engagement (France - 2004)
Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Audrey Tatou, director and star of Amelie, work together again in this haunting film about love, loss, and the horrors of war. Set at the end of World War I, Tatou's character, Mathilde, cannot accept that her beloved Manech is dead, killed in the forward trenches of the Somme. Although paralyzed by polio since childhood, Mathilde sets out to uncover the truth.
