Description:
Comas (Irish/Gaelic for Power) has rocketed to stardom in the last decade, forging far-ranging cultural influences into a unique style of Irish music. The band features a traditional array of instruments -- fiddle, flute, pipes, plucked strings, and bodhrán (drum) -- plus vocals, and the sound is described as "driving power, coupled with a fine sensitivity for the inner strands of magic." Comas has existed as a band since 2003, but each member has many outside accomplishments, playing with groups such as The Drovers, Urbantrad and the Liz Carroll band. The members met on tour and were delighted to discover similar approaches to traditional Irish music, despite their different nationalities and musical backgrounds. Within months Comas were playing at major festivals in Ireland, Belgium, France, England, Denmark and Holland, and were immediately invited back to every festival -- in some cases before they had even put their instruments away! Hailed in the press as "The revelation of 2003" (NVFOLK) and "The best traditional band around" (Folkspot), they soon brought out a self-titled CD -- joined by a 2nd album this year -- and have continued to tour in Europe whenever schedules permitted. They finally hit North America in 2011 and once again, have been immediately invited back wherever they go. Don't miss this exciting group's first appearance in Woods Hole!
