Description:
Stoned Soul Picnic," "Eli's Coming," "Wedding Bell Blues," "And When I Die"...these fantastic hits and many lesser-known gems were written by Laura Nyro in the '60s and '70s, and the "superb cabaret/jazz singer"* Shepley Metcalf delivers them with passion in "The Songs of Laura Nyro." Shepley has performed the show in New York City, Chicago, Boston, and Wellfleet, and looks forward to sharing these great tunes in Cotuit.
A passionate fan of Nyro's music as a teenager, Shepley decided to detour from her usual American Songbook repertoire to explore Nyro's eclectic work. This spring she released "The Songs of Laura Nyro," recorded live at her New York City show. Shepley's first album, "Something Irresistible: Songs of Fran Landesman and Simon Wallace," received a four-star/excellent rating from Jazzwise Magazine. Cambridge-based Shepley and musical partner Ron Roy perform regularly throughout New England.
Ron Roy on piano, Chris Rathbun on bass, and Bart Weisman on drums will join Shepley to deliver "Stoney End," "Billy's Blues," "Save the Country," and other gems from Nyro's rich songbook.
