Description:
Author F. Shirley Prouty will give a presentation on her book Master Carver: from Germany's Passion Play Village to America's Finest Sanctuaries about the work of the great ecclesiastical carver Johannes Kirchmayer, 1860-1930. Richard R. Seidel, Historiographer of the Diocese of Chicago, calls Prouty's work "an exhaustive and meticulous study that will be indispensable for any scholar who wishes to investigate and understand ecclesiastical art and architecture in the early decades of the twentieth century." The book received Honorable Mention in the photography / art category at the New England Book Festival in 2008 and is scheduled to be placed in the Smithsonian Library.
