Description:
Artistic Director Jane E. Caputo wrote and choreographed Legend of the Witch Moll Dyer ballet, a story of a 17th century witch who became an outcast for being different and, according to legend, still haunts the East coast village where she lived.
As the 400 year-old legend goes, Moll Dyer moved to United States from Ireland in the 1600s. Her independence and inability to fit in with the locals caused concern and animosity among the villagers. When drought and a plague afflicted the region and even caused death, the villagers blamed Moll Dyer. On the coldest night of the year of the coldest winter the village had ever seen, the community turned into an angry mob and set her home on fire. Moll Dyer ran away and froze to death in the woods.
Its not a happy piece, but its beautiful to watch, said Caputo, who saw for herself the handprints in the rock that Moll Dyer allegedly clung to the night she froze to death.
Legend of the Witch Moll Dyer is the second half of the Conservatory Youth Ballet Performance on Saturday, November 3 at 2 p.m. in the Tilden Arts Center at Cape Cod Community College. Tickets are $15/per adult and $10/per child. This performance may not be suitable for children under six.
