Billy Elliot (UK - 2000)
When 11-year-old Billy Elliott is enrolled in boxing lessons, he finds himself fascinated with a nearby ballet class. Soon Billy is secretly paying for ballet lessons and discovering his natural talent for dance. When Billy's father finds out, he explodes, saying, "Lads do football, boxing , not friggin, ballet!" The world of Thatcher's England, striking coal miners and social injustice forms the secondary plot of this film about family, sacrifice, and a boy's courage.
