Description:
Located down an alleyway off Vestal Street is the Old Gaol, a two-story colonial structure that once served as the islands jail.
The former penal facility now owned by the Nantucket Historical Association houses four cells with iron bars across the windows. Inside each cell, iron rods penetrate log-beam walls reinforced with iron strapping, intended to prevent any prisoners escape from 1805 to 1933.
On Tuesday night, the imposing and especially after dark spooky building will be the site of Scary Stories at The Old Gaol presented by the NHA in collaboration with Theatre Workshop of Nantucket. The family-oriented event will consist of Halloween-spirited storytelling by costumed actors.
Scary Stories at the Old Gaol, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 15R Vestal St. $5 per child, free for accompanying adults.
