About the film: During the last week of August 2013, the country commemorated the 50th anniversary of the historic March on Washington. In August 1963, crowds gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. for the galvanizing event led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A few months later, on November 22, 1963, the nation was brought together once again, this time in the shock and mourning following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. November 22, 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of that tragic date, a time poignantly captured in the documentary LETTERS TO JACKIE: REMEMBERING PRESIDENT KENNEDY.
On Monday, three days after the President died, 45, 000 letters from bereaved citizens arrived at the White House. Within 7 weeks, Jacqueline Kennedy had received more than 800,000 letters. LETTERS TO JACKIE features 20 of those 800,000 letters read by an all-star cast of actors, using archival footage and never-before-seen Kennedy home movies to bring to life the vivid feelings and emotions of a nation in late 1963 through the words of ordinary citizens. The readers include: Jessica Chastain, Chris Cooper, Viola Davis, Zooey Deschanel, Kirsten Dunst, Anne Hathaway, Laura Linney, Frances McDormand, Mark Ruffalo, Octavia Spencer, Channing Tatum, Betty White and Michelle Williams.
