    Special Education Workshop Series Sponsored by: Cape Organization for Rights of the Disabled (CORD) Transition to Adulthood Program (TAP)All Workshop are on Wednesdays from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Workshop 1 - Referral to IEP Development Wednesday, September 22 ~ Learn your childs basic rights and the regulations governing special education starting with referral leading to the IEP. Learn the timelines for testing, the steps and development of the IEP, and opportunities for parent involvement. Workshop 2 - Understanding and Using Evaluations Wednesday, October 20 ~ This workshop will identify types and contents of evaluations and how to match the right evaluation to the concern, where to find an evaluator and what information the parent will need to provide, understanding the report and how to use the recommendations at the IEP meeting Workshop 3 - Special Education Laws and Regulations Wednesday, November 17 ~ Learn the laws governing special education including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, IDEA, Mass regulations, the ADA, and how to use them effectively. Workshop 4 - A Mock Team Meeting Wednesday, January 12 (snow date January 13) ~ This workshop will present a mock team meeting to demonstrate how the actions of each team member affects the outcome and how the parent can get an-swers to their questions. Workshop 5 - IEP vs a 504 Plan Wednesday, February 9 (snow date February 10) ~ Learn the distinctions between an IEP and 504 accommodation plan, including the purpose, eligibility instruction, compliance and accountability. Workshop 6 - Measuring Progress: Goals and Benchmarks Wednesday, March 9 (snow date March 10) ~ Learning to formulate goals and benchmarks with the team gives the parents the tools to make sure the child's program is effective.
