|
Description:
ROOTS HOME AND GARDEN is pleased to host Timothy Campbell in the store to talk about his folk art and visit with customers. Last month Campbell was awarded the highest honor as a traditional artisan in this years Directory of Traditional American Crafts, and his work is showcased in the latest issue of Early American Life magazine. He ranks top in his field, according to a panel of national experts convened by the magazine. The expertscurators from such prestigious institutions as the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, George Washingtons Mount Vernon, Hancock Shaker Village, Kent State University, National Council on History Education, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Old Sturbridge Village, Southern Highland Craft Guild, among othersselected the top craftspeople working with traditional tools and techniques. Campbells handcrafted paintings and sculptures showed mastery of the art form, heritage techniques, and workmanship, according to the judges. The judges look for authentic design and workmanship, whether the piece is a faithful reproduction or the artisans interpretation of period style, said Tess Rosch, publisher of Early American Life. Scholarship, as well as use of period tools and techniques, is particularly valued in this competition. Were so pleased to have Tim visit the store, William Peacock said. Weve had a great response to his work. So much of it reflects the maritime culture here in town, and the passion for antiques and folk art thats so much a part of New England life. At ROOTS HOME AND GARDEN you can choose from hand-selected, distinctive home furnishings, art, and accessories--the special pieces that make your home and garden your own sanctuary. New owners William Peacock and Damon Leard bring their own flair to Provincetown with new merchandise and improvements to the shop.
