Back by popular demand, the NHA is thrilled to present Grammy-nominated pianist Jennifer Maxwell as she performs a one-of-a-kind live accompaniment to the 1922 silent film Down to the Sea in Ships on the NHAs beautifully restored 1925 Steinway grand piano.
This one-night only performance will allow audiences to hear a new interpretation of the films original score, arranged by Maxwell herself. Using musical archives from the New Bedford Whaling Museum, Maxwell incorporated pieces that were played during the films initial release in 1922, along with original music from William Perry, who later composed another score for the film in the 1970s.
The silent classic film also features action and an early appearance by movie star Clara Bow.
