Description:
What was it like to sail the seas as a child long ago? Kids, ages 8-10, are invited to participate in a hands-on program offered on Wednesday, July 22, from 9 to noon at Brooks Academy Museum about life at sea in the nineteenth century. Participants will learn basic seamanship knot tying and signal flags. They will also play period games, sing sea chanteys, make seaweed art, and taste hardtack. Sponsored by the Harwich Historical Society, the program is based on the reminiscences of Sarah Weekes Foster, a Harwich girl who spent two years aboard her fathers ship during the Civil War. Fee is $10 per child.
Pre-registration is required by July 20.
