Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor is a multi-award-winning composer, musician, theater artist, writer, media producer, and educator whose works span the mediums of music, theater, literature, film, television, and multimedia installations. A Mashpee Wampanoag elder, Mwalim began playing music at age 10, before turning 14 he performed at Carnegie Hall. By 16, he was one of the youngest session players in EMI history. Mwalim is a three-time recipient of the New England Urban Music Awards for jazz. He is the keyboardist and a resident songwriter for the multi-Grammy-nominated soul-funk band, The GroovaLottos. Mwalim is the head of production at Polyphonic Studios (https://www.polyphonicstudios.com/) in Buzzards Bay. He is a tenured professor of English, Communications and Black Studies at UMass Dartmouth.
