Description:
Explore the fascinating tale of pirate Sam Bellamy and his ship the Whydah in this talk and book signing Sunday, May 16, beginning at 2 p.m. at Brooks Academy Museum.

Local author Elizabeth Moison presents a fictional account of the famous Cape Cod pirate in her new book Master of the Sweet Trade chronicling the pirates lust for gold; his relationship with accused witch, Mariah Hallett, and the treasure ship, which was lost off Wellfleet in one of the worst storms on the Capes eastern shore in 1717. The ship was recovered several years ago and its treasure is estimated to have been worth 120 million dollars in todays money.

Moison, a professional artist, is a member of the National League of American Pen Women, and founding host of A Book in the Hand, Shelf Space, and leads a writing group at the Brooks Free Library in Harwich Center.

The talk is held in conjunction with Cape Cod Maritime Days, a month-long celebration of the Capes nautical heritage. Admission for the program is $4; $3 for members of the Society. Brooks Academy Museum is located at 80 Parallel Street in Harwich. For more information, please call (508) 432-8089 or email harwichhistoricalsociety@verizon.net.
