Paducah, Kentucky- The US Department of Energy has released a nationwide mail-in rebate program to help residents replace older, inefficient appliances with new, ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances. Rebates vary from state to state, but typically will be awarded for the following products: " Refrigerators " Freezers " Clothes washers " Dishwashers " Room air conditioners " Gas condensing water heaters " Gas storage water heaters " Gas tankless water heaters " Electric heat pump water heaters " Solar water heaters (electric and gas back-up) " Gas Furnaces " Gas Boilers " Central air conditioners " Air source heat pumps " Geothermal heat pumps
According to the Kentucky Department for Energy Development and Independence "If just one household purchased each of these appliances the impact would be the equivalent of taking 17 cars off the road for a year and planting 20 acres of forest."
In addition to the State funding of rebates there are also Federal incentives, which alone can cover 30% of the total cost including equipment and installation of geothermal units. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reports that "Homeowners typically experience an annual savings of 30 to 70% when compared to ordinary systems, and geothermal units will pay for themselves within 4-5 years."
