Veterans Financial Information Session-Thinking About Independent or Assisted Living?
|
Description:
Mar 21 1:00 p.m. &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&.RSVP-Free Ed Merrigan of Veteran Services wants you to be aware of such statements from agents posting ads saying&wartime veteran or the surviving spouse, and are in need of assisted living, you may be entitled to a significant monthly income. The Inc. after a corporate name may say it all. There have been a growing number of firms over the past five years that fit this profile. They tend to be trust lawyers, financial planners or "pre-screeners". They use the Aid and Attendance benefit to draw veterans in seeking more info. The phrase "you may be entitled to a significant monthly income is a classic line for these operations. They then interview the vet to get a feel for income and assets and determine if they are viable candidates for their services. Some charge a fee for creating trusts, some charge a fee for filing for the benefits that other organizations (like us) file at no cost. The "pre-screeners" tend to refer the vets to planners and get a finders fee. If the vet turns out to be "not their kind of people" they don't mention anything about the mystery benefit but usher them out the door. If the vet specifically asks about the benefit, they give them a stack of forms and usher them out or offer to file for a fee. Mr. Merrigan will be here to answer your questions and discuss the importance of going to Veterans Services first.
