Description:
The Groovalottos bring their brand of phunk back to the Hall dance floor! Come down and shake a tail feather to one of the grooviest bands around.
The GroovaLottos are a multi-Grammy nominated, powerhouse soul-funk-blues band comprised of award-winning veteran studio session and touring players and singers. Said to play with their souls instead of their hands, they are a fellowship of musical journeymen on a mission to unlock the spirit and turn every show into a soul revival party.
Earning six Grammy nominations in Pop, R&B and Rock over a two year period for their debut album, "Ask Yo' Mama" the band has been phunking up audiences throughout New England, New York City, and Washington DC, where their live performance on WPFW remains one of the most requested replays on the station. The GroovaLottos are comprised of Eddie Ray Johnson, drums and vocals (played for Rufus Thomas, Wilson Pickett, and others); Richard Johnson on bass (plays and has played for too many r&b, jazz and gospel artists to mention); Mwalim on keyboards and vocals (played for Angie Stone, Musiq Soulchild, and numerous r&b, rock, jazz, and pop recording sessions in New York and New England); and The ZYG 808 on percussion and vocals (2-time Grammy nominee in Hip-Hop for his solo project, "At The Party").
