Description:
Enjoy the music of America, museum tours, and hands-on activities for kids in a Presidents Day celebration Monday, February 15, 2-4 p.m. at Brooks Academy Museum.
Sponsored by the Harwich Historical Society, this program features local musicians pianist Jan Mills and vocalist Martie Martin who will perform a selection of toe-tapping, stirring, and sometimes haunting traditional American tunes. Their performance also marks the debut of Harwichs famous piano in the woods in its new home at the museum. Found abandoned in a Harwich conservation area in 2008, the piano generated media interest worldwide. The instrument has been restored thanks to the efforts of piano tuner Jon Page and pianist Dot Hemmings and was donated to the museum last fall. Exhibits open during the Presidents Day event All Aboard the Harwich Railroad featuring a working 17x20 foot HO scale model layout of early 20th century Harwich, sure to delight train fans of all ages. There are also displays depicting Harwichs baseball story, cranberry heritage, Presidents Day memorabilia, and hands-on activities for children.
