    The American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands Chapter will be offering a special Instructor Course to be able to teach CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. The class will be held at the Chapter House at 286 South Street, Hyannis on January 25 and 27, 2011 from 6:00-9:00 pm and on January 29, 2011 from 9:00 am 4:oo pm. Students must attend all sessions to be certified. The cost of the course is $155. Registration is best via (508) 775-1540. For more information about the course, check out www.cciredcross.org The purpose of the course is to train instructor candidates to teach the American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider course. Upon completion of the course, authorization is for two years from the date of certification. The prerequisite for the class is the basic CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider certification. To be eligible for the training, students must: " Be at least 17 years of age on or before the last scheduled session of the course. " Successfully complete the pre-course session. This includes passing the precourse written exam with a score of 80 percent or higher on both Section 1 and Section 2 and demonstrating competency in the precourse skills and scenarios evaluation. Upon conclusion of this instructor course, candidates should be thoroughly familiar with course materials and should be able to: " Expand on information from the American Red Cross Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) course to teach the CPR/AED for the Rescuer courses. " Demonstrate the characteristics required of an American Red Cross representative and role model. " Teach courses in a manner that helps participants stay engaged in the learning process. " Ensure participants health and safety during training. " Demonstrate CPR and AED skills at an appropriate level of performance. " Maintain complete and accurate records and reports. " Plan, organize and conduct the CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer courses in accordance with the requirements of the specific program they will be teaching, and evaluate participants. " Monitor participants practice and provide corrective feedback and encouragement consistent with the critical skill performance steps.
