Description:
The fourth annual Preparedness Fair which will be held on January 8, 2011 at the Barnstable Senior Center in Hyannis from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

The American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands chapter is once again teaming up with the Cape Cod and Islands Council, Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of Southeastern Massachusetts to put on the event.

This Fair will help scouts earn most, if not all, of the skills necessary to receive their Emergency Preparedness Award, the Junior Girl Scouts Safety Award pin as detailed in Safetywise and work towards the Safety Sense badge for Brownies. Various disaster services groups will be present, including volunteers from the Red Cross, AmeriCorps Cape Cod, West Barnstable Fire Department and Barnstable Police.

Scouts will have the opportunity to rotate through different activities learning about emergencies. These include water safety, basic first aid procedures and general disaster preparedness skills.

American Red Cross would like to extend the invitation to Cub Scouts at the Wolf, Bear or Webelos level, Junior Girl Scouts and Brownies. They are also looking for older scouts, leaders and/or parents to help in volunteering with the activities. Interested troops should contact Andrea Brown, the Education Coordinator at the Red Cross chapter. Her email is supportone@cciredcross.org or office phone (508) 775-1540 ext. 20.

The American Red Cross strives to train communities and individuals to be prepared for any disaster. The Red Cross offers multiple health and safety courses, including First Aid and CPR and AED.

The American Red Cross has been the leader in health and safety training for more than 90 years. More information on the Cape Cod and Islands chapter training, volunteering or donating can be found at the website, cciredcross.org, by calling the Hyannis office at (508) 775-1540 or by writing to 286 South Street, Hyannis, MA 02601.
